Oiso Korean Traditional Cuisine & Cafe At The Sphere

This article on Oiso Korean Traditional Cuisine & Café originally appeared in the Foodilicious at The Sphere Bangsar South online campaign.

Ever had craving for Korean food but not really wanting to get your clothes smelling like BBQ from the Koren BBQ? And with prices skyrocketing with good food, it’s a little hard to get awesome food for a cheaper price.

But, fortunately for Korean afficionados out there, there’s this Korean food shop in The Sphere, Bangsar South that offers you just that! Cheap food with that authentic Korean taste, that’ll transport you back to Seoul 🙂 OISO Korean Traditional Cuisine & Cafe is located on the top floor of the Sphere, next to Little Taiwan. They pride themselves on providing only the best home cooked recipes, and after sampling some of their wares, I believe that 100%!!

OISO means welcome in the Korean dialect 🙂

Beef Bulgogi (Lunch: RM15.90, Dinner: RM18.90)

For this dish, the beef is marinated with pear sauce, after which it is cooked on a hot plate, and garnished with chili, capsicum, and enoki mushrooms. The beef is tender, and the sauce is sweet. Just the perfect combination for an easy dinner 🙂

Jap Che (Lunch: RM10.90, Dinner: RM13.90)

These are potato noodles, and at first glance they look like glass noodles. They are more springy and chewy, but equally as delicious 🙂 The sesame seasoning really brings out the taste of the noodles, and it was salty enough, just to my liking 🙂

Pajeon (korean pancake), RM10.90

Pajeon, or more easily pronounced seafood pancake, is a special delicacy in Korea. Pa means spring onion in Korean (which explains all the greenery), and I would think jeon means seafood? Not too sure about that though :p In this particular seafood pancake, there is squid in it. It comes with a sweet sauce, which you dip the pancake in, and eat it with. Fabulous taste 😀

Kochi pancake, RM10.90

Didn’t manage to try this, but I was told that if you order two main dishes during dinner time, you can actually have it free of charge. How’s that for a deal?

Seafood steam boat, RM39.90

If you’re new here and want to sample their signature, this is the dish to order. It has octopus, squid, crab, mussels, prawn, and several vegetables. Altogether, there are more than 15 ingredients that make up this dish, with a bean paste soup. The seafood they serve here is really fresh. When I took a bite of the prawn, I knew. The soup tasted good as well, with none of the fishy smell that comes with seafood that has been kept too long.

Stir fried octopus, RM29.90

A simple dish of fresh octopus with Korean chili sauce. Yummy!!

Egg roll cake, RM10.90

One of the side dishes served to us that night was the egg roll cake, which was smooth and not too overbearing with the edd taste. Rolled into this ‘cake’ was also crab meat and vegetables, so you not only have egg, but meat and veges too! Talk about healthy eating 🙂

Barbequed fish (Lunch: RM14.90, Dinner: RM17.90)

The type of fish they used is the blue mackerel, grilled to perfection. On the outside, the skin is smooth and comes off easily when peeled off. On the inside, the meat is soft and tender, not overcooked, neither is it undercooked. I think the chef must have taken a very long time to master the art of grilling the fish. I couldn’t have enough of it throughout the night 😀

Rice cake, RM10.90

This is one of the more famous street food in Korea, which is cooked with a little bit of spicy sauce, and garnished with chillis and spring onions. I loved the unique taste which I seldom find in most Korean restaurants. It has a distinct kimchi taste, with a little bit of tomato undertones.

Some of the condiments they served us with while waiting for our food to arrive. Kimchi FTW! 😀

Pomegranate Juice

Their drinks were really good! so much so that I ordered two glasses of their juices 🙂 I like how the soury sweet flavour came out. It was a delightful mix 🙂

Grape Juice

Don’t worry, this drink doesn’t have any Ribena taste :p it tastes like Fanta Grape, but without the gas, and yes, it tastes really good 🙂

Aloe Vera Juice

Charmaine’s bf ordered this, and this is a really refreshing drink 🙂 It’s not too sweet, and the aloe bits are just the right texture 🙂

Affirmations make the world go round 🙂
